The funds raised through the sale of your donated goods, or you shopping at one of our retail thrift stores directly benefits our participants via programming and support resources. It’s shopping for a cause at its best!

Items We Do Not Accept

  • Furniture that is stained, ripped, torn, threadbare, worn out, odoriferous, or covered in animal hair
  • Mattresses and Box Springs (new factory sealed items will be handled on a case-by-case basis)
  • Car seats, crib bumpers, cribs or pack n’ plays, high chairs, strollers, or any other items meant to support the weight of a child
  • Electronics without power cord or that have damaged power cords
  • Tube or non-flat screen televisions
  • Helmets older than 7 years or those with dry rotted padding
  • Dirty, soiled, broken, rusty, mildewed, or moldy items
  • Anything wet
  • Swimming pools
  • Alcohol and alcoholic beverages
  • Any hazardous materials – including paints, cleaning fluids, fuels, propane, propane tanks, or equipment containing fuels
  • Auto parts such as batteries, car rims, and tires
  • Large appliances – please call because we may have a need in one of our shelters
  • Weapons of any sort – this includes knives, ammunition, and guns
  • Large metal office desks
  • Window blinds that are not new and in packaging
  • Wire hangers
  • Carpeting
  • Rugs that are stained, ripped, torn, threadbare, worn out, odoriferous, or covered in animal hair
  • Copying machines or old printers
  • Waterbeds
  • Ceiling fans or anything needing to be hard wired for installation
  • Older, non-flat screen computer monitors
  • Humidifiers or dehumidifiers
  • Encyclopedias

Bring Your Items to Any Location

All of Good Shepherd of Northern Virginia’s locations accept donations based on the schedules noted above. Simply bring your gently used items to any of our three locations.

Get Your Tax Deductible Receipt

Cleaning out your closet not only supports our mission, but it provides you with a tax deduction. Simply provide our team with your itemized listing of donations, and we’ll provide you with your receipt.
